Start your day by getting picked up by your guide at your accommodation in Barcelona. Discover the multifaceted city, driving in a private vehicle just for you and your professional local driver guide.
First, visit Plaça Espanya and Montjuïc Park. Discover the works from the Universal Exposition of 1929 and the Olympic games of 1992 as you make your way up the mountain. Stop at the Mirador de l'Alcalde, a beautiful terrace with wonderful views of Barcelona’s iconic skyline offering fantastic photo opportunities.
After taking in the views of Barcelona from the Mirador, head down the mountain to visit the beautiful seafront of the city before heading to the Gothic Quarter. Visit the Old town with a relaxed walking tour, as this is the best way to discover this area without missing any of its secrets. Wander through its quaint little back streets to find the hidden imprints left by the Roman and medieval city in this world-famous neighborhood.
Afterwards, head to Plaça Catalunya, the center of the city, before following the Passeig de Gràcia avenue to discover the main examples of Catalan architecture. Here, discover the works of Domenech i Muntaner, Puig i Cadafalch, and Antoni Gaudí, the three main architects representing the Modernist style of building. Take a moment to admire the striking features of their works (exteriors), including Gaudi’s Casa Batlló and La Pedrera as well as Casa Ametller and Casa Lleo Morera.
Next, follow the footsteps of Gaudí and explore the Eixample district. This district was designed by the urban planner Ildefons Cerdà as an expansion of the Old Town. In the Eixample, you’ll enjoy a visit to the main highlight of this tour, Gaudí’s crowning achievement, La Sagrada Familia. Where you will discover the many examples of religious symbolism hidden in its façades. Gaudí’s incredible and organic architectural style will leave you breathless. This tour includes skip-the-line access to Sagrada Familia, so you will be able to avoid the long queues and take in the impressive interior of the basilica.
Points of Interest:
Passeig de Gràcia:
The most luxurious avenue of Barcelona, home to the most distinctive examples of Catalan Modernist architecture. Marvel at the surprising façades of Gaudí’s famous houses (Casa Batlló and Milà, also known as la Pedrera). Discover the “apple of discord” - the word “manzana” (apple) also meaning, “block of houses” in Spanish.
Eixample District:
This district was designed by Ildefons Cerdà after 1859, when authorities approved his plan to expand the city. (The word “Eixample” actually means “expansion” in Catalan!) Cerdà’s idea of urban planning was revolutionary and utopian, a fact you will observe directly while walking through the streets of this elegant neighborhood.
Sagrada Familia:
Perhaps the most emblematic landmark of Barcelona. There are no words to describe the feeling one gets when entering this magnificent temple of Modernism. The organic shapes found throughout its structure, the light filtering through its stained glass windows and the symbolic nature of the building’s sculpted façade will probably be the highlight of this tour (if not of your whole stay in Barcelona!)
Montjuïc Park:
Originally used as a strategic place from which to defend the city against attack, this impressive park borders the Mediterranean Sea. From its summit you will enjoy fantastic views of the Barcelona skyline. The park’s hills are home to several buildings that perfectly exemplify modern art and contemporary architecture. These include the sport facilities belonging to the Olympic Ring, as well as museums like the Miró Foundation and Caixa Fòrum. You will also discover examples of urbanism and architecture specially designed for the International Exhibition of 1929.
Barcelona’s Old Town::
This is where the history of Barcelona first started. In Barcelona’s Ciutat Vella you will find a harmonious mix of modernity with Roman and medieval imprints right in the city center. Learn all about Barcelona’s origins and about some of the most fascinating Catalan traditions. Explore the charming corners, picturesque plazas and narrow alleys of the Gothic Quarter. We especially recommend a visit to Plaça Sant Jaume and the famous Cathedral.
